Vancouver’s HootSuite will give wrestling fans the chance to sit ringside – virtually – at WWE’s WrestleMania event April 7, which will see The Rock face off against John Cena.
The social media company has created a social media command centre that will allow users to watch the rivals square off before, during and after the event.
The command centre will track all Twitter mentions of each wrestler, recent Tweets by the two wrestlers, Facebook “likes” and the amount of “people talking about” either athlete on Facebook.
HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes said the WWE is an excellent example of what it means to be a social business.
“The HootSuite WWE WrestleMania 29 social media command centre is a prime example of how, by listening to their fans, the WWE has created engaging social campaigns and products that are widely-used and praised.
“Other sports, media and entertainment organizations should take note.”
This is not the first time HootSuite is using a social media command centre to allow users to participate in this way. There were similar centres set up for:
the Baltimore Ravens vs. the San Francisco 49ers leading up to Super Bowl XLVII; and
President Barack Obama vs. Senator Mitt Romney during the 2012 election campaign.
