Social media management software company HootSuite is moving into a larger head office in Vancouver thanks to a deal that the company struck with city hall.

HootSuite will move into 33,000 square feet of office space in a two-storey building at 5 East 8th Avenue in early 2013 as part of a lease agreement that the city calls “innovative.”

The pact includes an option to buy the building, which has a 2012 assessed value of $9.6 million.

The Vancouver Economic Commission was also involved in brokering the deal that will keep HootSuite in Vancouver.

“Since we first started HootSuite in Railtown in 2008 as a part of Invoke, we’ve been proud to call Vancouver our home,” said HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes.

Four years after HootSuite’s humble founding, it has more than 230 staff.

“The city’s digital media sector is strong and continues to grow, and we’re excited to have found a new location that allows us to stay and expand here. We’ve had strong support from the city and look forward to continuing to build out our Vancouver presence.”
