The Huffington Post’s B.C. website launches today as part of Huffington Post Canada’s expansion across Canada.
AOL Canada and the Huffington Post Media Group announced the move today, adding that an Alberta site is also being launched today, and that a Quebec version was launched in February.
The Huffington Post is part of global media company AOL Inc. (NYSE:AOL).
“With close to one million people in Western Canada already visiting Huffington Post sites, expansion in this region was a logical choice,” said Graham Moysey, general manager of AOL Canada.
A Vancouver-based editorial team will drive the effort, under the management of news editor Andree Lau, formerly of the CBC.
According to the publication, the site will feature contributions from Huffington Post editors, bloggers and “influential British Columbians” including:
- author Robin Rowland;
- Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May;
- radio broadcaster and filmmaker Tetsuro Shigematsu; and
- singer Sarah McLachlan.
‘The site will deepen the conversations around the stories that matter most to those living in British Columbia, including politics, opinion, environment, affordable housing, lifestyle and news,” the company said in a press release. “HuffPost B.C. will inform, inspire and connect readers to a platform that allows them to be involved in their online communities and the stories that move them.”
