Federal Industry Minister James Moore announced the launch of a technology demonstrator program, according to a September 4 release by the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC).

The program will fund large-scale technology demonstration projects intended to test the viability of new technologies before they are brought to market. It was first announced in the government’s 2013 Economic Action Plan and will provide $110 million over four years, with a further annual commitment of $55 million.

“Technology demonstration is a vital part of bringing innovation to market, but it is very complex and involves high levels of risk, said Jim Quick, AIAC president and CEO.

“The program announced today will help our companies to develop and produce the kinds of cutting-edge products that are at the heart of what makes Canadian companies the best in the world.”

Technology demonstration is a stage in the research and development process that moves new technologies out of the lab and tests them in realistic settings.
