Innovators in B.C.’s life sciences industry recognized

LifeSciences BC has announced the winners of its 2012 LifeSciences British Columbia Awards. These awards are presented annually to recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the development of B.C.

LifeSciences BC has announced the winners of its 2012 LifeSciences British Columbia Awards.

These awards are presented annually to recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the development of B.C.’s life sciences industry.

“British Columbia has some great leaders in biotech, and the four individuals and one company selected for these awards are incredible innovators,” said Don Enns, president of LifeSciences BC.

“Our sector is world-class, and these winners represent significant achievements resulting in economic growth for B.C.”

Awards were handed out in five categories:

  • Genome BC Award for Scientific Excellence Neil Cashman, professor and Canada research chair, Brain Research Centre, University of British Columbia (UBC) and Vancouver Coastal Health;
  • Innovation and Achievement AwardTim Durance, founder, chairman and co-CEO, EnWave Corp.;
  • Leadership Award – Bruce McManus, director, NCE CECR Centre of Excellence for Prevention of Organ Failure, UBC;
  • Medical Device Company of the Year – Neovasc Inc.; and
  • The Dr. Don Rix Award for Lifetime AchievementIan de la Roche, adjunct professor, Forest Resource Management, UBC.

The awards will be presented at an April 19 gala ceremony at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
