Vancouver-based InTouch Technology has promoted its vice-president of sales and marketing to lead the company after nearly a year without a permanent CEO.

Sandra Wear, who is also a Science World board member and head of the Canadian Women in Technology advisory council, took the CEO position in February and now also serves on its board.

InTouch has developed a software platform used by health clubs to generate leads for new members and retain current members.

“Great technology companies anywhere (are) exciting but especially when it’s in our own backyard and people don’t know,” Wear told Business In Vancouver.

She will be leading about 20 people who have helped deliver the software to more than 800 health clubs in 11 countries.

“(The team is) very diverse…if you have a diverse team, the company does better economically,” she said.

“What we want to do now is expand even further our global footprint and deepen it.”

Wear replaces founder Scott Johnston, who left the company as CEO in 2014.

InTouch has been without a CEO since last spring and it was the board that interviewed Wear when she took the job as vice-president of sales and marketing in January.

Wear said the promotion to CEO made for a “natural transition” as the company looks to expand its international reach.
