Macdonald, Dettwiler and Associates (TSX:MDA) subsidiary Space Systems/Loral (SSL) has been selected to build a communications satellite for Japanese satellite operator SKY Perfect JSAT.
The new satellite, dubbed the JCSAT-14, will replace aging JSAT equipment to meet growing demand for telecommunications infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific.
“We are very pleased to select SSL to provide SKY Perfect JSAT with our next satellite,” said Shinji Takada, president and CEO of SKY Perfect JSAT.
“SSL is a world leader in satellite manufacturing and has the ability to meet our rigorous schedule requirements for this important satellite.”
The new satellite will be used to support broadcast and data networks, as well as provide high-speed connections for the maritime, aviation and resource industries.
“We are very honoured to become a supplier for SKY Perfect JSAT and hope this is the beginning of a long and successful relationship for both of our companies,” said John Celli, president of SSL.
SSL is based in Palo Alto, California. MDA, the owner of SSL, is based in Richmond.
