Pharmaceutical giant Merck will provide $4 million to fund life sciences research centres in B.C., Ontario and Quebec, the company announced today.
The Centre for Drug Research and Development, located in Vancouver, will share the funds with Toronto research centre MaRS Innovation and the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer in Montreal.
The three centres will work on turning their research into saleable drugs and technologies.
"The corridor initiatives we are funding today are part of our new approach to R&D which is about building collaborative research relationships," said Dr. Thomas Cannell, president of Merck Canada.
"Private-public partnerships, in particular, will provide a fertile environment for innovation to grow and to quickly reach the commercialization stage in the best interest of patients."
