The Ministry of Education announced July 23 that it plans to replace its $100 million student information system, beginning in 2014.

Implementation of the new program will begin in fall 2014 and provincewide use will start in 2015. Fujitsu Consulting Canada has been chosen to implement the system.

According to a government press release, the new system will house all enrolment information as well as demographic and achievement data for each student from kindergarten to grade 12.

Parents will also be able to access the new system from home to monitor their child’s progress and communicate privately with teachers.

All data collected will be stored in Canada. The primary data centre will be located in Kelowna and backup servers will be in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Currently, the province uses the British Columbia Enterprise Student Information System (BCESIS), which has been widely criticized by teachers for being unreliable.
