Samsung might be having problems with its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone but even those fire-prone devices are unlikely to sway Canadians’ gaming habits.

Forty-one per cent of Canadians say their mobile devices are their preferred method of playing video games, according to a new survey from the Entertainment Software Association of Canada

That’s up from just 6% in 2012.

The ESAC survey also revealed 52% of respondents have a played a video game at least once in the last four weeks.

That’s frequent enough to be labelled a “gamer”, according to the threshold by which ESAC measures gameplay.

Despite more than half of Canadians admitting they’ve played video games at least once in the last month, just 38% of respondents said they’d describe themselves as “gamers.”

The survey also found women are getting into gaming more than ever before, with female gamers playing 9% more on a daily basis on their mobile devices than their male counterparts.
