Richmond-based Norsat International Inc. (TSX:NII) has received a $1.7 million order from Hong Kong’s Datacom Systems International Limited for the provision of satellite terminals.

Norsat will provide marine VSAT (very small aperture terminal) units for use in naval ships. The units are built to withstand high impact shocks and vibrations that occur on military ships.

Dr. Amiee Chan, Norsat’s president and chief executive officer, said that Datacom has been involved with the installation of many large-scale VSAT projects in Asia over the last 15 years, but that this is Datacom’s first naval VSAT project.

Norsat will train Datacom on how to use the terminals and will supervise the installation. The project will involve Datacom installing cable runs from above to below deck, installing air conditionals and testing and conditioning each system on multiple ships.
