QuickMobile is sticking close to home with the hiring of its new CEO.
The mobile app developer has recruited David Smith to replace San Francisco-based Craig Brennan.
While QuickMobile is headquartered in Vancouver, Brennan continued to split his time between California and B.C. when he took the helm of the company in January after serving as a board member.
Smith, who previously served as CEO of Vancouver’s Elix Wireless Charging Systems, is the third CEO to lead QuickMobile in 2015 since founder Patrick Payne stepped away from the top job.
“My experience and history with (QuickMobile’s) investor base and board members is a big asset,” said Smith, whose first day on the job is Monday (November 9).
“I feel really comfortable with the team and, from a broader perspective, I can really hit the ground running.”
Brennan’s departure comes after chief marketing officer Robin Jones left the company in July to work for Vancouver-based financial tech startup Payfirma.
Smith told Business in Vancouver his own knowledge of the local markets is going to help him attract and motivate employees based here.
“How local people think and being able to connect with the team locally is really important,” he said.
QuickMobile develops apps providing schedules, analytics, photo-sharing and search functions to manage meetings and conferences.
The company has satellite offices in London and Singapore, and Smith said a big part of his job would be overseeing efforts to grow globally.
“My mandate is quite simple: it’s really to get the company to the next level,” he said.
“There’s an inflection point in the marketplace and we really need to capitalize on that. We now need to turn our attention to growth and to customer success. That’s a big part of my background.”
