Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX:RCI) is taking a page from the Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL) playbook with the conversion of a former Rogers video store into a new retail outlet in Vancouver that focuses on educating customers about their gadgets and services.
Rogers has converted its old video store at 1295 Davie Street into an “interactive” retail store that places a heavier emphasis on customer interaction and education. It also has Rogers’ versions of Apple geniuses to help customers with their new devices or services.
A similar store opened at 1617 Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. They are part of a chain of 20 new or remodeled retail “concept” stores opening across Canada.
The stores offer access to a wide range of Rogers products – smartphones, tablets, etc. – and one-on-one service and education.
Rogers hosts will greet customers as they enter the stores and they can schedule one-on-one appointments, if needed.
“Service and community are at the heart of our innovative new stores,” said Sian Doyle, vice-president of retail for Rogers.
“The Vancouver store opening is part of a larger retail transformation to enhance how we service and sell to our customers. With interactive learning sessions and seasoned tech experts available onsite, consumers can learn more and get the latest technology and services in-store.”
Customers will be able to try out Rogers products at demonstrations stations and the stores will also feature a “community table” where interactive education sessions will be led by seasoned techies to teach customers about their products or services.
The stores will also offer free Wi-Fi, toys for children and a selection of Rogers magazines.
