Samsung Electronics has opened a research and development centre in Vancouver – its first R&D facility in Canada – the electronics giant announced November 28.
The centre, which has around 60 software engineers, designers and operations staff, will focus on developing the company's security features and provide global technical support for its business customers.
"Our new Canadian Samsung R&D facility is creating jobs in British Columbia, a hub for technology innovation," said Samsung Canada president and CEO HT Kim.
"With a skilled Canadian talent base to draw from, the team will help Samsung continue to lead the industry - both at home and abroad - by driving product innovation."
Premier Christy Clark, who is currently touring Asia on a jobs and trade mission, said companies like Samsung are investing in British Columbia because they see the advantages of working in this province.
"A highly-educated talent pool, competitive tax policies, a business-friendly climate and AAA credit rating speak for themselves," said Clark.
Samsung has over 67,000 R&D employees in 33 R&D facilities around the world, including those in the United States, China, Russia, India and the U.K.
