The public school population in B.C. schools is dropping, according to the Ministry of Education’s forecast for the upcoming school year.
Highlights of the release are:
- 525,692 school-age, full-year students enrolled in public schools, down more than 5,000 students from the 531,516 enrolled in 2012-2013;
- 54,212 First Nations students, down 125 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 54,337;
- 24,215 students with special needs, down 81 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 24,296;
- 58,971 students learning English, down 77 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 59,048; and
- 5,972 adult students, an increase of more than 1,000 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 4,969.
