The public school population in B.C. schools is dropping, according to the Ministry of Education’s forecast for the upcoming school year.

The public school population in B.C. schools is dropping, according to the Ministry of Education’s forecast for the upcoming school year.

Highlights of the release are:

  • 525,692 school-age, full-year students enrolled in public schools, down more than 5,000 students from the 531,516 enrolled in 2012-2013;
  • 54,212 First Nations students, down 125 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 54,337;
  • 24,215 students with special needs, down 81 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 24,296;
  • 58,971 students learning English, down 77 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 59,048; and
  • 5,972 adult students, an increase of more than 1,000 from the 2012-2013 enrolment of 4,969.
