Financing startups through crowdfunding, getting your foot in the door in Silicon Valley and capitalizing on the explosion of smartphones and tablets are some of the topics on the agenda this week at the second annual Grow Conference, Wednesday through Friday.
Organized by San Francisco's Debbie Landa, founder of GrowLab and CEO of Dealmaker Media, the annual conference is de rigueur for local tech startups wanting to meet, learn from and pitch to the doyens of Silicon Valley.
The opening party – Launch@Grow – was sold out last week, with 1,000 tickets sold. Tickets were still available for the main conference, however.
This year's presenter list includes: Adam Chapnick, a principal of Indigogo, one of the most successful crowdfunding platforms; Mark Johnson, CEO of news aggregator Zite; and Catalina Briceño, director of industry and market trends for the Canada Media Fund.
Guest speakers will address a number of current trends such as crowdfunding. Jeremy Toeman, CEO of Dijit Media, will be talking about how mobile devices are redefining TV.
The conference takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre, west building.
