Simon Fraser University has signed a collaboration agreement with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) to work together on hydrogen and fuel cell technology research, SFU announced January 24.

Indian Oil Corporation is India's national oil company and the largest corporation in that country.

The agreement will see the organizations exchanging research and has the potential to lead to a joint research facility at IOCL's R&D site in Faridabad.

"Indian Oil recognizes and values the global lead role which British Columbia is taking in the fuel cell developments and its commercialization," said Dr. R.K. Malhotra, director of research and development, Indian Oil Corporation Limited. "The collaboration with Simon Fraser University will help Indian Oil to get the benefit of their expertise in hydrogen and fuel cell research.

"The intended collaborative research will help further the development and optimization of fuel cell technology and cut down the cost."

The agreement was signed in New Delhi January 24 by Malhotra and SFU president Andrew Petter. Petter was in India for a weeklong mission to forge relationships and partnerships with Indian educational institutions and companies. SFU also announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay outlining potential future collaborations on clean energy research.
