Seven teams made up of students and alumni from Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) Venture Connection early-stage business incubator will compete February 11 at the inaugural Coast Capital Venture Prize Competition.

Three of the teams will be chosen to share prizes that total $5,000.

The competition judges the teams’ progress with their business idea and their levels of participation within Venture Connection's mentoring and other activities. The field was narrowed to seven teams following a preliminary round that had 17 teams.

The seven teams that remain in contention include:

Venuewize, a wireless events system designed to make organizing events more efficient;

HQ Interactive, a game developer that focuses on bringing top quality entertainment to smart phones;

Winsphere, a golf platform that eliminates the restrictions of traditional golf lessons;

Mobisafe Systems, which is developing an “airbag system” to protect people who use mobility assistive devices such as wheelchairs, power chairs and scooters from falling;

Texts 4 Health, which allows health care providers to communicate, provide care and impact large numbers of patients through both one-way and two-way text messages;

CKM Sports Management, a sports management firm providing high school, amateur and junior hockey players with services to help them become better players; and

Adsonnaps, which specializes in printing high-resolution QR-code advertisements on high-quality napkins.

More than 1,800 students have participated since 2009 in the Venture Connection’s programs.
