About 400 jobs have been axed at Shaw Communications (TSX:SJR.B) in a bid to cut down on inefficiencies, according to the company.
The Calgary-based telecom giant announced April 14 that most of the job-cuts would take aim at management and non-customer service roles.
"The roles and structure we established years ago to support us as a cable company can no longer support our growth," Shaw CEO Brad Shaw said in a statement.
"We are eliminating duplication of work and organizing our activities and operations in a way that best meets the needs of our customers and viewers."
The company said it would consolidate its cable, satellite, Internet and home phone services into a single business unit, while also combining its engineering and information technology departments into one division.
Shaw Communications said it expects to hire about 100 people to support this restructuring.
The company has about 14,000 employees and 3.4 million subscribers across Canada.
