Corporate meal-planning company Foodee has been acquired by food services giant Sodexo for an undisclosed amount.

Foodee will keep its staff, Vancouver office and brand as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sodexo.

"Sodexo's best-in-class workplace services and Foodee's software platform are a powerful combination for our corporate clients as they return to a new normal,” Foodee co-founder and CEO Ryan Spong told BIV.

Spong – who is also the co-founder and owner of Tacofino and Superbaba, and principal of MainStreet Advisors – will continue on as CEO of the company.

The acquisition, which closed July 7, will see Foodee expand to New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas and Montreal within the next year. The company already caters to Vancouver and Toronto, along with a dozen U.S. cities.

The company’s platform allows clients to build custom meal plans around food and dietary preferences, and source corporate meals and snacks from more than 800 local restaurants. Since its launch in 2012, Foodee says it has served more than 10 million meals.

Last year, BIV reported that Foodee had secured $13 million in new financing from an unnamed Canadian bank. In September 2017, the company closed a $10 million Series A funding round led by BDC Capital.

The terms of Foodee’s acquisition by Sodexo have not been disclosed.
