Striking workers from Simon Fraser University (SFU) and Vancouver Community College (VCC) have announced a rally downtown today.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) BC has announced that approximately 1,000 striking workers from CUPE Local 3338 are shutting down SFU's three campuses from last night at midnight through to tonight at midnight and will rally downtown at VCC today.

The union announced that members of CUPE Local 4627 will picket the college's two Vancouver campuses.

According to the union, the support workers involved in the strike have been without a contract since 2010.

"At SFU, the employer has repeatedly refused to negotiate in good faith for a new agreement," the union said, adding that "every other B.C. university" has recently reached new collective agreements with their CUPE employees, while CUPE local 2278 at UBC is in mediation.

The striking SFU workers along with striking teaching assistants and SFU Faculty Association supporters will march three blocks to the Victory Square entrance of VCC at 12:30 p.m., where they'll join striking CUPE 4627 workers in a rally.
