BackCheck, a Surrey-based provider of background-checking services, has been acquired by U.S.-based Sterling Infosystems.
After receiving indications of interest from several global corporations, the management and board of Checkwell Solutions Corp., the parent company of BackCheck, said it chose Sterling's offer to meet customer requirements on both sides of the border.
Dave Dinesen, founder and CEO of BackCheck, said, "We have been asked countless times to provide services on a North American basis – so many companies have operations or talent pools on both sides of the border.
"Together, we can deliver best-in-class background-checking services for Canadian and American employers, without compromising the need for local sensitivity in the areas of privacy, legislative compliance, and data security."
BackCheck, which employs more than 400 people, has its head office in Surrey and additional offices in Montreal, the U.K. and the Philippines.
Dinesen and the management team of BackCheck will remain unchanged and operations will continue as usual, including operating under the brand name BackCheck.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
