Telus Corp. (TSX:T) announced December 12 that it will donate $5 million to BC Children’s Hospital to boost care for some of the province’s most seriously ill children.

B.C.’s second-largest public company has supported the hospital since it opened in 1982 and, since 2000, has contributed $10 million to the facility.

“Undergoing treatment for a serious illness or injury is one of the most significant challenges that a child and their family can face,” said Telus CEO Darren Entwistle.

“Today’s gift will help our home province’s children and their families in a meaningful way.”

In addition to financial gifts, Telus manages BC Children’s Hospital’s Upopolis program, which is a safe online social networking site launched in 2009 that allows sick children to connect with family, friends, fellow patients and teachers so that they can stay up to date with their school work as well as their social lives.
