, Telus drops bid for Mobilicity: report

Telus (TSX:T) has dropped its bid to acquire wireless carrier Mobilicity, according to a report from The Globe and Mail.

The May 21 story cited an unnamed source that said the Vancouver-based telecom giant informed the smaller carrier of the decision the day before.

This was the third time Telus made a bid for the struggling carrier.

In June 2013, Ottawa said it would not approve an application to transfer radio frequency licences from Mobilicity to Telus due to concerns about competition.

The licences were originally introduced in 2008 to bring more entrants into the Canadian wireless market.

A spokesman from Telus said the company had no comment.

A representative from Mobilicity did not return messages to Business In Vancouver by press time.
