A week after the Big Three telecoms announced a campaign to address the possibility of Verizon entering the Canadian market at what they say is an unfair advantage, Telus has launched its own campaign to address the issue, according to technology blog Techvibes.
The campaign is called Canada Play Fair, and includes a petition addressed to Minister of Industry James Moore, asking that the market remain fair by:
- ensuring that foreign entrants be required to build their own networks in both rural and urban communities;
- allowing Telus the same access to the wireless spectrum in the upcoming auction as foreign carriers; and
- allowing Telus to compete equally with foreign entities regarding the acquisition of wireless companies in Canada.
"I want to be clear that at Telus, we invite competition – from within Canada, the U.S. or anywhere else," said Andrea Goertz, Telus senior vice-president, chief communications and sustainability officer.
"You can't possibly have true competition if everyone isn't playing by the same rules."
