Telus saw its second-quarter revenue increase by 6% to $2.83 billion compared with last year, the company reported today (August 8).
Adjusted earnings per share was 54 cents a share compared with 48 cents in the second quarter of 2012.
The revenue increase was driven by a 6% growth in wireless and wireline revenue, said the company. It added 83,000 customers to its existing 13.2 million customers. Telus saw growth in post-paid wireless customers, TV subscribers and high-speed internet customers. However, prepaid wireless customer numbers declined.
The company’s strategy of investing in broadband technology and strong customer service was behind the rise in subscribers, CEO Darren Entwistle said in a statement.
Telus’ results compare favourably with competitor Bell Canada, which also released its results August 8. Bell Canada saw a 1.9% rise in operating revenue for 2013’s second quarter compared with Q2 2012.
However, at $4.4 billion, Bell’s quarterly revenue is significantly higher.
