Vancouver's Telus Corp. (TSX:T) has announced the acquisition of KinLogix, the largest provider of cloud-based electronic medical records (EMR) in Quebec.

According to Telus, KinLogix EMR is used in medical clinics to capture, organize and display patient data in one patient record, while streamlining administrative tasks and improving care delivery.

Telus said the acquisition boosts Telus Health's position in the EMR market.

Paul Lepage, senior vice-president of Telus Health, said, "By acquiring KinLogix, Telus is delivering on its national strategy which will further the adoption of EMRs, an essential building block to an efficient healthcare system in Canada." KinLogix is the largest and fastest-growing EMR player in Quebec, representing 36% of the province's EMR market.

Under the deal, the KinLogix team will join the Telus Physician Solutions group and KinLogix founder Dr. Michel Hébert will assume the role of medical director.

Hébert welcomed the deal.

"In aligning under Telus, we'll be able to better answer physicians' needs and continue to develop innovative solutions, allowing for additional collaboration across the continuum of care," he said.

Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

This is Telus' second acquisition of an EMR company; Telus acquired Wolf Medical Systems in February.
