B.C. drivers looking to trek as far south as California without spending a dollar on gasoline now have one more option.

Electric car company Tesla Motors  (NASDAQ:TSLA) expanded its Supercharger network into Canada for the first time July 17 with the opening of a new station in Squamish, B.C.

The station, located at a shopping complex in the city nestled between Vancouver and Whistler, has the capacity to provide Tesla’s Model S cars with half a charge in 20 minutes for free.

Tesla’s Supercharger network has 102 stations throughout North America. The company said the stations are chosen in strategic positions to ensure drivers can travel from one station to another to recharge with minimal stops.

The next closest station for southern B.C. drivers is located halfway between Seattle and Vancouver on the I-5 highway in Washington state. But the network extends all the way down to southern California, meaning a driver could travel for free from B.C. to the Mexican border.

A Model S car outfitted with an 85-kWh battery has the ability to travel 425 kilometers without a recharge.

The company plans to open at least three more Supercharger stations throughout B.C. by the end of 2015.

The Squamish Supercharger station features six stalls and is open 24-7.
