Vancouver digital ad agency Pound and Grain is scheduled to host the inaugural Gastown Design Showdown on June 27.
Billed as a “creative hackathon,” the design competition will feature 40 teams of two graphic designers all tasked with creating an app for a smartphone or tablet in six hours. One finished, each team will present their app in a 90-second pitch to the other designers, who will evaluate the work.
The winning team will be awarded a trophy and a one-year subscription to the Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) Creative Cloud.
Tickets for the event are $115. All profits will be donated to imagine1day, a Vancouver-based charity working to build schools in Ethiopia.
“Our goal is to create a truly one-of-a-kind event to recognize Vancouver design excellence and promote problem solving through cooperation and creativity. We also want to see meaningful results come from this experience for the people of Ethiopia,” said event organizer Julie Tremblay.
