Vancouver clean-tech firm tops TSX Venture 50 list

AgriMarine Holdings Inc. (FSH), a Vancouver company that makes closed containment pens for fish farms, tops this year’s list of clean-tech companies on the 2011 TSX Venture 50. B.C. companies also dominated the list’s technology and life sciences category.

There are 2,154 companies listed on the TSX Venture exchange. Each year the TMX Group publishes a list of the top 50, based on share price changes, trading, market capitalization and analyst coverage over a one-year period.

Categories are clean technology, diversified industries, mining, oil and gas and technology and sciences.

AgriMarine topped the clean technology list with a 126% share price change and 1,211% market cap change. (See “Closed-containment fish farming initiative launched” – issue 1112; February 15-21, 2011.)

Other B.C. companies making the clean-tech list were Naturally Advanced Technologies (NAT) and Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. (NGP).

Of the 10 companies in the technology and life sciences category, five are B.C.-based: Sirona Biochem Corp. (SMB), NanoTech Security Corp. (NTS), Counterpath Corporation (CCV), Neovasc Inc. (NVC) and EnWave Corp. (ENW).

Two Vancouver mining companies made the mining category: Gold Canyon Resources Inc. (GCU) and Rio Alto Mining Ltd. (RIO).

Pure Industrial Real Estate Trust (AAR.UN) made the diversified industries list.
