Vancouver's RentMoola, an online and mobile payment network, has launched what it says is a secure platform for tenants to pay their rent via credit card – for a 2.75% fee – according to technology blog TechVibes.
Doing this, said RentMoola, will allow renters to collect points on credit card-based rewards programs.
Patrick Postrehovsky, who founded the company with his twin brother, Philipp, said they built the platform because landlords are often asked by tenants if rent payments can be made by credit card.
Philipp Postrehovsky said,"Until now, they haven't had an opportunity to offer that payment type because there hasn't been a platform.
"All of the surveys are pointing to mobile payment options taking over in the future – we're ahead of the curve in the mobile payment space for real estate."
RentMoola said the rental industry is the only one that does not take credit cards.
The company said it is targeting higher-net-worth customers with higher rent.
