A Vancouver startup that developed Shnarped – a kind of digital sports card that allows hockey fans to connect with their favourite teams and players – has emerged from the Dragon's Den $250,000 richer.

Shnarped is a Twitter-type mobile app that hockey fans can use to send fist-bumps to their favourite teams and players, and allows those players to respond. It also provides a range of team and player stats – like a digital sports trading card.

The app was developed by two hockey players – Vancouver's Dustin Sproat, CEO, who played for the Cincinnati Cyclones, and Kyle Hagel, who plays for the Portland Pirates.

They were asking for a $100,000 investment for a 10% stake in their company. But the Dragons upped the investment to $250,000. All five investors agreed to invest $50,000 each to take a collective share in the company of $33.3%.

Vancouver's Boston Pizza co-founder Jim Trevling also agreed to sit on the startups board of directors.

The startup's successful pitch formed the season grand finale on last night's Dragon's Den. http://www.cbc.ca/dragonsden
