Two B.C. visual effects studios have earned Emmy nominations for work on a pair of American TV series that made Vancouver look like everything from a post-apocalyptic wasteland to a futuristic version of Los Angeles.
Zoic Studios, which has offices in Culver City, Calif. as well as Vancouver, received the nomination for outstanding special or visual effects on July 10 for its work on the CW series The 100.
Zoic is also competing against itself in the same category for work done on the FOX series Almost Human. It shares that nomination with Vancouver-based VFX house Artifex Studios and the B.C. arm of North Hollywood-based CoSA VFX.
The 100 and Almost Human were both filmed in Vancouver. The former takes place about 100 years after a nuclear a war, while the latter followed a pair of L.A. cops, one of whom was an android.
While The 100 was renewed for a second season in May, FOX did not pick up Almost Human for another year.
B.C. nominees from Zoic, Artifex and CoSA VFX include previous Business In Vancouver 40 Under 40 winner Tyler Weiss.
Fellow Vancouverites Andrew Bain, Michael Cliett, Kornel Farkas, Bob Habros, Jared Jones, Steve Melchiorre, Andrew Orloff, Chris Pounds, Mike Rhone, Curtis Krick and Adam Stern also received nominations.
