Vancouverites who have not yet downloaded a QR code scanner onto their smartphones might want to do so, if they plan to be on the pedestrianized Granville and Robson Streets this summer for VIVA Vancouver.
Each summer, the city closes Robson and Granville streets to car traffic to create weekend street festivals. This year, local businesses will be offering prizes through a treasure hunt. But it will require a QR code reader, as participants will have to scan QR codes on sandwich boards to win promotional offers and prizes.
Muprime Technology Inc., a Vancouver-based startup that makes customized QR codes, designed the competition.
VIVA Vancouver’s treasure hunt is on Saturdays and Sundays from June 29 and runs through August 25.
