Westport Innovations has acquired another company specializing in low-emissions engines.
The Vancouver-based firm announced December 2 it bought Dutch engine-maker Prins Autogassystemen for US$15.1 million.
About US$8 million of that sale will come through assuming debt from Prins and another US$7 million will be payable through cash.
Westport is best known for its compressed natural gas- (CNG) and liquefied natural gas-powered (LNG) engines. Prins also specializes in fuel systems powered by CNG and LNG, as well as propane-powered engines.
Westport paid US$23.4 million in 2010 for a 100% stake in OMVL SpA and Juniper Engines, a joint venture between a Westport subsidiary and SIT Group of Italy that had also been developing propane-powered engines.
