The City of New Westminster's proposal that the Pattullo Bridge should be dismantled and not replaced is making business leaders anxious in both Surrey and New Westminster.

"Our mandate is business, so we're wondering how they will ensure the efficient movement of goods, services and labour," New Westminster Chamber of Commerce (NWCC) executive director Cori Lynn Germiquet told Business in Vancouver yesterday.

The NWCC has not yet taken an official stance on the proposal, which is one of eight that the City of New Westminster has presented in recent public meetings.

The NWCC and the Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT) are co-hosting a discussion about the potential elimination of the 75-year-old bridge on May 24 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Fraser River Discovery Centre at 788 Quayside Drive in New Westminster.

SBOT CEO Anita Huberman has told media that it is "frustrating" to hear New Westminster residents support a smaller replacement bridge or no bridge at all.
