Before and after: Centerm terminal expansion would add 15% to its footprint in Vancouver's inner harbour

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority will be holding open houses this week on a $350 million expansion of the Centerm container terminal on the south shore of Vancouver’s inner harbour.

The terminal is owned and operated by DP World Vancouver. The terminal handles roughly one-fifth of the goods moving in and out of Vancouver by container ship.

The planned expansion would increase the terminal's footprint by 15%, but would increase the volume of containers it handles by about two-thirds, according to a port authority press release.

The expansion would boost the terminal’s annual handling capacity to 1.5 million containers from 900,000.

It's also expected to add 40 staff at DP World Vancouver and roughly 290 longshore jobs.

The first public information session on the expansion will be held Tuesday, August 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Uncommon Café, 477 Powell Street
Public information sessions will also be held at the Railtown Café, 397 Railway Street, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on August 18 and from 2 to 4 p.m. on August 20.

Information on the expansion plans can be viewed online.
