Citizens all around the region have voiced their opposition to the coal transfer facility proposed for Fraser Surrey Docks

Federal Green Party Leader Elizabeth May has tabled a petition in the House of Commons calling on Parliament to stop further port expansion in the Fraser River estuary.

The petition includes signatures from more than 1,000 British Columbians who claim it is unacceptable to construct a massive second container terminal with three berths at Roberts Bank at the mouth of the Fraser River.

According to environmental group Against Port Expansion, the proposed Terminal 2 will destroy key habitats and migration corridors for more than two billion juvenile salmon and several million birds of the Pacific Flyway.

This "Most Important Bird Area" in Canada supports waterfowl and shorebird migration routes from 20 countries and three continents.
