TransLink on September 19 announced changes to its SkyTrain network that will start October 22.

It remains unclear when the Evergreen Line extension will launch although the expectation is that it will "before Christmas," according Translink CEO Kevin Desmond at a September 19 press conference at Lougheed station.

The changes in advance of the Evergreen Line launch include that the Millennium Line will operate between VCC-Clark station and Lougheed station.

The original Expo Line will have two branches. One will go between Waterfront station and King George station in Surrey. The other will go between Waterfront station and Production Way-University station.

Commuters from downtown can connect with the Millennium line at Broadway station.

“We’ll be increasing the frequency of service on the Millennium Line,” said BC Rapid Transit Co. Ltd. manager of operations planning Ian Fisher.

“Right now you get a train every five and a half to six minutes. Starting October 22 you’ll get a train every three and a half minutes for most of the day on the Millennium Line.”

He said that the changes will not impact most SkyTrain riders. Those who are likely to see the biggest changes are people from Surrey going to north Burnaby or from New Westminster to north Burnaby.

"They might have an additional transfer," he said.

When the Evergreen Line does open, Metro Vancouver will have the longest automated transit system in the world, according to Desmond.
