Those ever-increasing departure fees at YVR helped the airport take flight once again after passengers departing Vancouver International Airport ranked it the best in North America.
The World Airport Awards handed the honour to Vancouver on March 26, marking the fifth-consecutive year it's been recognized as the continent's top airport.
"This award is about more than just YVR's iconic art and architecture. It encompasses our superior customer care and efficient processes, our shopping and dining options and more," YVR president Craig Richmond said in a statement. "Ultimately, this award is a powerful testament to the commitment of the YVR community — 24,000 strong — to go beyond, every day."
Skytrax, which tallied about 13 million nominations from across the world, also declared YVR to be the ninth-best in the world, placing ahead of London's Heathrow airport.
The Singapore Changi Airport was ranked No. 1 in the world.
Passengers rated airports based on check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration, among other factors.
