Social Media Week Vancouver (SMWV) starts on Monday, featuring events to advance the understanding of social media's growing role in society in Vancouver and around the globe. CEOs, artists, journalists and entrepreneurs will share their knowledge and best practices throughout the week at summits, panels and tweet-ups throughout the city.
SMWV is organized annually by Socialized! Agency Ltd., whose chief social officer is Business in Vancouver online columnist Shane Gibson. The week is sponsored by ING Direct and co-hosted by the BC Chapter of the American Marketing Association.
The Social CEOs Leadership Summit on September 28 will bring top-level executives together to draw attention to the real business considerations of social media. The event keynote will be delivered by Peter Aceto, CEO of ING Direct, who will shed light on how even organizations in traditionally non-transparent industries like banking can benefit from smart social strategies, both internally and externally.
Also scheduled to speak are Gibson, who will focus on the integration of social media at all levels of an organization, and social business strategist Eric Weaver, who will discuss the revenue potential and ROI of social media.
The Women in Leadership Summit on Tuesday, September 25, is a panel event designed to inspire women to pursue goals in business and entrepreneurship while embracing the benefits of social media.
The panellists are:
- BIV columnist Cybele Negris, president and co-founder of Webnames;

- Lara Kozan, co-founder of Yyoga; and
