The fourth annual edition of BC500 has been published and is now available free when you subscribe to BIV or you can purchase a copy for $25.

As one of BIV's most ambitious editorial projects of the year, this special magazine profiles 500 individuals deemed to be the most influential business leaders in British Columbia.

“At its core, BC500 is about highlighting individuals whose leadership, ideas and actions are shaping the future of our province,” says Lara Graham, publisher of BIV.

All of this year’s featured business leaders have made a notable impact on B.C.’s communities, industries and economy. Some are household names, while others are well known within their sectors. They are trailblazers, innovators and visionaries who embody the values of modern leadership, including engagement, trust, inclusion and innovation.

Selecting the BC500

Each issue of BC500 reflects months of research, discussion and decision-making to profile 500 individuals with significant influence on life and business in B.C. Since its inception in 2021, the publication has continued to evolve, with each edition introducing new voices, fresh insights and reflections that resonate with the times.

The BC500 cohort was selected after evaluating a wide range of factors, including achievement within an organization or sector, professional contributions, peer recognition, awards, board appointments, community and political engagement, philanthropy, non-profit work and more. Elected politicians are excluded from the list, with the exception of Indigenous political leaders.

This year’s edition reflects BIV’s continued commitment to showcasing a wide spectrum of impact — across business, community, innovation and beyond. Compared with previous years, this year’s BC500 selection process focused first on individual leaders.

“This year, we focused first on individuals who deserved to be included, regardless of whether their impact and influence fit neatly into a single category,” says Hayley Woodin-Hastings, editor-in-chief of BIV. “As in past years, we identified prominent companies, organizations and individuals who are leaders in business, and, critically, have an impact beyond the scope of their role. We took steps to find and include leaders whose influence transcends categories — individuals who engage in community, volunteerism, philanthropy, politics, investment or other areas, beyond day-to-day business or organizational activities.”

Among the leadership qualities recognized in this year’s cohorts are advice, advocacy, change, community, connection, culture, growth, impact, innovation, knowledge, leadership, legacy, power, prosperity, service and transformation.

BC500 presents a snapshot of the province’s prominent leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and advisers, recognizing their leadership achievements at a particular moment in time. Their inclusion on the list celebrates their legacy as business leaders driving meaningful change in communities across B.C. and Canada.
